BREXIT IN LESS THAN A WEEK – DEADLOCK & CONFUSION
25th October 2019
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was thwarted by recent votes to get the Withdrawal Agreement debated by Parliament. He has suspended this legislation AND cancelled the proposed budget announcement.
Mr Johnson has already requested that we have a general election on December 12th 2019, but so far this has NOT BEEN AGREED by the opposition and as per law he has requested that the EU will extend Brexit until 31st January 2020.
26 of the 27 EU countries appear to be in agreement but our neighbours in France are holding out! There needs to be agreement BY ALL 27 EU countries. France wants to know if Labour will support a general election but Labour want to have the extension date confirmed first – DEADLOCK! No agreement and then No Deal Brexit is executed on Thursday 31st October!!!
We are prepared for hard Brexit NO DEAL on Thursday 31st October, are you?
WHAT DOES A NO-DEAL BREXIT MEAN TO THE FUEL INDUSTRY?
The Government’s report, Operation YellowHammer, anticipates that the traffic disruption caused by border delays, fuel hoarding and resulting increased fuel prices will impact fuel distribution with nationwide fuel shortages affecting your efficiency and bottom line. We advise you do not wait to see what happens but safeguard your fuel supply NOW.
THAT’S WHERE NEW ERA FUELS COMES IN…
Our “war-room” is prepared for the No-Deal outcome and the subsequent demands of our customers. We are cancelling vacations, planning double shifts, night time deliveries and extra weekend deliveries. As a nationwide supplier of fuels and lubricants we will be running our services as normal as possible and laying on extra tankers but we do expect;
- the demand for fuel to increase as businesses start to stockpile and panic buy
- border checks potentially delaying fuel routed via Europe
- traffic congestion as vehicles desperately seek fuel resupply
- prices increasing as fuel demand increases and supply reduces
- prices to increase if the sterling falls and dollar rises
- further regulatory confusion should there be a general election the same time as Brexit
The greatest risk we see is panic buying at forecourts which will create a knock-on effect at fuel terminals causing severe logistical issues and delaying deliveries due to heavy traffic. We expect these disruptions all over the UK and not just the South East.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND…
